Hi! Ive been riding bikes since 2009. My first “proper bike” was a TZR 125, I’d had a Chinese scooter and Yamaha YBR before that. I think I did my first trackday about a year later in 2010 on the very same TZR. It’s was at Mallory in the winter and I remember one of the guys I was with crashed at the chicane and we had to jet wash him and his bike down, the mud was even in his leathers!
After that I was hooked and not even remotely put off by the potential high speed mud bath. I had a fair few bikes between that and 2018 when I started racing, most notably an early R6 which I wrote off down paddock hill, an FZR600 which I was once black flagged for the amount of smoke it produced and a beautiful and trick R1 made in 2005.
Mad as it might sound I sold the R1 to buy an MZ to race, best thing I ever did. Bar obviously marrying my wife.
I had first podium, a second place, in my first year racing. The weather was awful and there was as a river running across corums, everyone fell off… my second years racing I won a couple of races and had a few more podiums, it was a very successful year!
In my third and forth years I was riding a new bike, still in the MZ class, but it took a fair while to work all the problems out and I didn’t do that well only managing a few podiums but not a win.
In 2022 I raced well all year after working out all the kinks and managed to finish in second place overall. My first championship trophy. After that it was only up and I had a great year fighting all the way in 2023 and managed to win the championship!
Following that I came second in the next year and that brings us to this year (2025) when I not only won the championship again but somehow managed to win the Sir Algernon Guiness trophy (BMCRC rider of the year).
Well that’s the back story done so going forward I’ll be your MZ riders rep, hopefully helping with any issues that come up trackside or otherwise. I also instruct on the test days and more than happy to help with any questions regarding riding, bike setup or race craft. If I can help in anyway I will!
Alex.
