Information: I became interested in motorcycle racing at an early age, mainly because of my mum's cousin (Joe Dunphy) who raced solos in the 1960s and a family friend (Terry Vinnicombe) who raced sidecars back then. It was through Joe that I met Bill Boddice, another sidecar racer, who used to call me his “little helper” as I would help him to pack up his van after each meeting at Brands.

I first became actively involved in 1965 when I was a flag marshal at scrambles and an observer at trials with the Ilford Amateur Motorcycle Club. Helping out at the trials involved standing in the middle of a forest in the middle of December each year! After several years of this I decided I had had enough and in 1974 I joined the Bantam Racing Club as “lap scorer on the line” (the club couldn't think of an official title so that's what they called me!). In 1975 I became a scrutineer (purely by accident – my own fault for hanging around the scrutineering bay!).

In February 1994 I was invited down to Lydden to a practice day run by Bemsee with a view to joining the club as a scrutineer and startline official. The rest, as they say, is history. After several years I had to give up startline duties and because of this I then got involved in unpacking and setting out the trophies with Tim McGrane. I also helped Tim with the Saturday evening presentations and a couple of years ago I was volunteered (thanks Tracey!) to present trophies at the podium on Sundays. I really enjoy working for Bemsee and hope to continue for many more years.
