I was introduced to sidecar racing in the early seventies by my elder brother John who was racing at that time. I was immediately bitten by the sport it was not until 1989 that I took the sport up myself with my younger brother Sean as passenger competing in the Bemsee K.R.C. and the A.C.U. British clubman’s championship unfortunately due to work commitments stopped racing in 1991 one of my biggest regrets to date.
Then out of the blue after 16 years I received a phone call from an old friend Roger Body telling me that he had a race meeting at the weekend and why don’t I come and watch which I did. It took only that one meeting for me to realize that I wanted to race again although probably to old to be any good but would enjoy taking part.
In 2008 I started racing with Bemsee after some good early results it soon became clear I had a health problem after several visits to the doctors and hospital they discovered I needed a quadruple heart bypass which was completed in October 2008. I managed to get fit for start of 2009 season finishing 3rd in the Bemsee championship.
Now properly fit and ready to have real go at the 2010 Bemsee title and long awaited return of A.C.U. Clubman’s championship cant wait for season to start. I hope as one of the Sidecar reps. my fellow competitors, or potential sidecar rookies, feel they can contact me with any suggestions, questions or problems they have, so together we can help make it the best club championship to compete in.
